Welome to The Labyrinth
This beautiful Classical labyrinth is the oldest labyrinth pattern, believed to be more than 4000 years old. This pattern is also known as the Seven-fold or Cretan labyrinth (as the design was found on Cretan coins and has obvious associations with the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur), and yet it is found in many cultures around the world…
The labyrinth is unicursal (unlike a maze), the way in is the way out. The only choice you have to make is to enter - or not.
At its most basic level, it is a metaphor for the journey we make ‘within’ (to the centre of our deepest and most ‘knowing’ Self) and then back out into the world, where we return to our loved ones/community with a better insight into who we are and how we can contribute…this is the Hero’s Journey.
Walking the labyrinth invites mindfulness: we can turn our focus to sights & sounds, sensation & synchronicity, terrain & boundaries, twists & turns, clarity & disorientation, letting go & welcoming in, resistance & surrender/acceptance, the lost & the found…in short, paying attention to all of your experiences in the labyrinth will yield insight into how you walk through Life’s Journey!
Alex Waters, who is responsible for the planning and building of labyrinths, has been working with this ancient symbol since 1993, when she first became enchanted by its’ simplicity, power and resonance. As a ‘guardian’ of the Classical labyrinth (mystery tradition) she has been facilitating labyrinths for groups and individuals since 1997.

Alex is a homoeopath and workshop facilitator/trainer with a background in dramatherapy, wilderness therapy, counselling and training.
